If the washer will not unlock at the end of a wash cycle unplug the washer or disconnect power.

The lid lock is a default feature of your maytag front loading and top loading washer to prevent opening the appliance while the cleaning cycle is in progress. Wait approximately 2 minutes for control to reset. You may also see an f8 e1 error code. The door may immediately unlock.

Now you can reach down to the bottom of the door latch where there is a 1 round plastic tab. The door should unlock after 60 seconds. If not call for service. The door will not lock for approximately 10 seconds after starting a cycle.

If it still won t work then unplug the washer and remove the screws coming in from the back of the top panel. If the washer was powered on before being connected to water the door may be locked and it may go into a drain mode. Front loaders have a locking mechanism to avoid opening the door during a washing cycle but occasionally this lock will be activated accidentally. When using one of these cycles the door will remain locked until the cancel button is pushed.
